Space Standards

  • Utilizes the groundwork laid by the standard sizes, installation research, and standards developed by Interior Design, Architecture, and other departments to specify the size and placement of artwork by WeWork space type

  • Creates efficiencies by removing guesswork for what size artwork to place in standard spaces, such as conference rooms, booths, and printer alcoves

  • Allows teams to focus creative efforts on customizing higher traffic areas, such as reception areas and lounges

  • Helps to project art spend and installation efforts based on floor plan layouts

Standard vs. Custom

A large part of this exercise determined which spaces in WeWork buildings should receive artwork, and whether that artwork could be standardized or not. Smaller, contained rooms and spaces, such as conference rooms, were prime moments to limit size options, whereas high-impact areas or ones that were often built with more variable conditions (size of space, windows vs. no windows, amount of available wall space, etc.) remained opportunities to create localized and unique experiences.

Working closely with the Head of Art & Graphics, the Global Art Director, and the Special Projects team, we defined standard art moments based on the aesthetic vision for the WeWork product as well as historical knowledge of past member experiences in the space. For more custom moments, we selected successful projects to provide as examples for how to approach the design of the space.
